Introducing Prius: the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. Powered by the Toyota Hybrid System(THS), Prius combines a super-efficient gasoline engine with a powerful eletric motor. Prius has an onboard system that recharges the batteries while the vehicle is being driven, so there's no need to plug into any outside charging source. It has been available in Japan for the last 24 months and there are over 30,000 on the road today. The U.S. version is targeted to get up to twice the lileage of conventional cars and to run 86% cleaner than the federally required fleet average. Prius arrives in the U.S. in the summer of 2000 and is currently available for viewing at various auto shows around the world. |
